Sixteen glorious days and seventeen comfortable nights in the Isles Of Scilly. We flew there by Skybus from Newquay. We camped at The Garrison on St Marys. Each day after breakfast, we joined a boat at the harbour quay and went off to an island to explore, lie in the sun, walk, drink and eat, meet interesting people, watch birds, buy trinkets, visit churches in which to sing, collect shells and pretty coloured glass. We visited Tresco with it's Abbey Gardens and well managed estate, castles, bird watching, the New Inn with splendid ice-cream. St Martin's with a vineyard, organic eco-friendly cafe, lovely trinket shop, bulb growers, bakery, and found a geocache. St Agnes with the Turks Head and the island of Gugh over the bar, cows, home made ice-cream, community fete and hall. Bryher with the Hell Bay Hotel, played piano and table tennis in the old school community centre, Hell Bay and its crashing shore line. Samson, the uninhabited island with the ruined houses where we collected bulbs from a croft and lay on the beach on a very warm day. St Marys, the main island with its restaurants, shops, bars and Neolithic cairns and burial chambers. |
